Information and Advising Face-to-Face

The services below are directed at students of the University of Hamburg. Some of the services are by appointment only.

Prospective students and applicants can get advice on the phone, online, or in group sessions.

Please still preferably use the forum, contact form, or phone for your concerns and hand in your documents digitally.

For students

ServicePoint

Service directly at the Service Point without an appointment:

  • reenrolling and semester contribution
  • requirements for and ramifications of academic leave, part-time study, and withdrawal (information and advice)
  • application process for the transition from a bachelor’s to a master’s program or a university degree program to doctoral work
  • getting started with your studies and finding your way around the University
  • information about the Deutschlandsemesterticket
  • additional advice and offices at the University and in Hamburg

We also issue the following documents:

  • proof of enrollment
  • documents confirming periods of study
  • certificate of withdrawal (only after withdrawal has already taken place)

Application, Admissions, and Student Affairs Team

Make an appointment with the Application, Admissions, and Student Affairs Team for the following:

  • correcting semester documents (e.g., specific semester, name, degree program)
  • certificates: orphan’s pension (in case of loss of one or both parents), pension-loss period (form V501), certificate for extension of residence permits
  • health insurance matters
  • Deutschlandsemesterticket exemptions
  • changes in status: leaves of absence, part-time, withdrawal (verification of proof and administration)
  • interrupting studies (for enrolled students)
  • certifying documents

Center for Academic Advising

Make an appointment with the Center for Academic Advising for the following:

  • I want to enjoy my studies more.
  • I want more contact to other students.
  • I wonder if something else entirely would better suit me.
  • I can’t seem to get any further but don’t know why.
  • I want to be more satisfied with my accomplishments.
  • I don’t (yet) feel that I have really settled into my studies.
  • I find it hard to study and to work independently.

The Office for Students with Disabilities

The office is the central point of contact at the University of Hamburg for students with long-term or permanent disabilities or impairments. It provides support with organizing and applying for student accommodations, possible compensations for disadvantages, as well as assistance with integration and inclusion in academic life.

Application, Admissions, and Student Affairs Team

Make an appointment with the Application, Admissions, and Student Affairs Team for the following:

  • special applications (only for double degrees, top athletes, to improve average grade, to improve waiting period, preferential admission)—counselling on hardship applications for health reasons
  • student place exchange in medicine, dentistry, and pharmacy programs
  • enrolling for a doctorate
  • enrolling for a specific program, Erasmus, as a guest student (only incoming students at the University of Hamburg)
  • advice on applications for the recognition of supporting documents and certificates obtained abroad (no recognition or grade conversion)

Only the Service Point offers walk-in office hours, so find out if you need an appointment for your matter of concern.

We send all the information you need by email after you make an appointment. This will include the time and a waiting number. Have this email ready and be at the Campus Center at the appointed time to avoid unnecessarily long waits.
