Anti-Racism Advice and Information Working Group
In 2024, a comprehensive survey was conducted among employees of various counseling centers at the University of Hamburg to assess the current state of anti-racism counseling services and identify areas where action is needed.
The aim was to gain a better understanding of the resources, knowledge, and support structures available for dealing with racism and to further develop counseling practices. A total of 310 employees took part in the survey. The results show that racism has not been adequately addressed in counseling services to date. The analysis also reveals gaps in the visibility, resources, and expertise of the counseling services. In addition, there is an increased need to improve information about existing support facilities and contact points, as these are currently known to only a few people.
The survey highlights the need to raise awareness of support services, strengthen employee qualifications, and make counseling structures more inclusive and visible overall. Based on these results, concrete recommendations were developed to further improve the counseling culture at the University of Hamburg.
The aim is to prevent discrimination more effectively, increase the visibility of anti-racism services, and promote an inclusive university culture.

Currently, we are working on the analysis of the student survey "Students in Focus: Racism-Critical Counseling at UHH." We plan to combine the results of both surveys to gain a more comprehensive understanding of the current situation, which will enable us to develop targeted measures.
