“UHHApp”: New app from the University of Hamburg now available

The UHHApp offers a wide range of services and will soon be available in English as well.

The new “UHHApp” for Android and iOS offers a variety of services for students and staff, as well as information and news about the University of Hamburg. It can be downloaded from the respective app stores.

Anyone interested can use the app without registering to receive news and event announcements from the University of Hamburg. Users can set filters based on their interests and mark items as favorites. After logging in with their uni username, University of Hamburg members gain access to additional features, such as a digital student or staff ID. Access to a library account, including a digital library card, can also be set up. The long-term goal is to replace physical plastic cards.

In addition, the “UHHApp,” which replaces the previous “UHH mobil” service, offers a filterable and customizable overview of student cafeteria menus—with or without registration—as well as links to many other university services such as the Campus Navigator and the Campus Tour. Emergency information with a direct dial function is also available.

Further Development and Feedback Opportunities

The app, whose security has been externally verified, is available for Android (version 10 and up) and iOS (version 15 and up). The development team has paid special attention to making the systems accessible for disabled individuals and to protecting data privacy in both versions. For example, on digital staff and student ID cards, the name and date of birth are grayed out by default to protect privacy during simple visual checks, such as at a museum. However, the data can be displayed by simply tapping the screen if needed.

The “UHHApp” is continuously being developed and will soon be released in an English version as well. Users can also submit suggestions for additional features and report issues via the app’s rating and feedback options.
