Living and studying in Germany is still more of a bumpy road than a smooth ride?

Join us in this workshop to gain more clarity about your achievements and challenges as an international student in Hamburg. You will connect with your peers and work on a plan of how to proceed with your studies, where to seek support – if needed – and how to acknowledge challenges you have already mastered.

What you'll take away:

• A clear overview of your personal highlights, strengths, and hurdles as an international student in Hamburg.
• A personal roadmap for next semester.
• A study buddy with whom you will meet in between our two sessions and who will keep you on track.
• We will spend the day at the beautiful Botanical Garden in Hamburg Klein-Flottbek with plenty of space to take walks during breaks or to find a quiet spot to discuss your questions with your study buddy.

How do I approach professors at German universities? How do I prepare for a meeting with a lecturer to discuss the topic of my term paper? What exactly is a term paper and what is actually expected of me?

Arriving at a German university can be a challenge. University communication, teaching methods and academic practice differ slightly from country to country. They are based on unspoken values, norms, and roles and the resulting expectations.

The aim of the workshop is to shed light on these unspoken rules. A reflective look at communication, relationships and expectations with lecturers, fellow students and other members of the university helps to better understand how to navigate the German higher education system safely and successfully, and how to get the support you need.

Learning objectives:

• German higher education landscape: traditions, rules, structures
• German teaching and learning culture: typical forms of teaching at German universities (lectures and seminars), discussions, group work, student presentations, exams, and assignments

This follow-up session helps you reflect on your experiences, understand discrimination and bias in application processes, and strengthen your resilience.

Topics include:

• Facts about bias and discrimination in recruiting
• How to take a personal and empowered stance
• Dealing with rejection in healthy, constructive ways
• Practical next steps after the job fair

The term resilience describes the ability to adapt to new situations, even when things get difficult. People with a high level of resilience can deal well with such situations and emerge stronger. They can control their emotions, adapt to setbacks and maintain a positive attitude even under pressure. In resilience training, you will learn various methods and techniques to strengthen your resilience.

Learning objectives:

• We clarify what resilience is and which factors and skills can help you to overcome challenging situations.
• We identify typical and personal stress factors, learn and reflect on methods to reduce stress and promote calmness.

Bist du neugierig, wie der internationale Handel funktioniert und welche Rollen eine der führenden Containerreedereien dabei spielt? Dann besuche gemeinsam mit uns die Zentrale von Hapag-Lloyd.

Mit rund 305 modernen Containerschiffen, einem jährlichen Transportvolumen von etwa 12,5 Millionen TEU (Standardcontainer) und rund 17.400 Beschäftigten in mehr als 400 Niederlassungen in 140 Ländern spielt Hapag-Lloyd eine wichtige Rolle im globalen Handel und Warenverkehr.

Während des Besuchs erhältst du aus erster Hand Einblicke in das Unternehmen und erfährst, wie die globale Schifffahrt in der Praxis funktioniert. Die Veranstaltung beginnt mit einer kurzen Vorstellung von Hapag-Lloyd sowie einem Überblick über Einstiegsmöglichkeiten wie Praktika und Werkstudentenstellen.

Außerdem berichten Kollegen aus verschiedenen Abteilungen aus ihrem Arbeitsalltag und zu aktuellen Themen der Schifffahrtsbranche. Dies ist eine großartige Gelegenheit, Fragen zu stellen, mehr über verschiedene Karrierewege zu erfahren und ein besseres Verständnis dafür zu entwickeln, wie die Arbeit in einem globalen Unternehmen aussieht.

Der Besuch umfasst auch eine kurze Führung durch die Büros der Hapag-Lloyd-Zentrale. Der Nachmittag endet mit einer Fragerunde und informellem Networking mit dem Team.
